Susan Nix Shines Light on Women Influencing Business Workshop
Susan Nix shared her wisdom on negotiating and lessons learned at the Women Influencing Business Workshop on Thursday, February 25th, 2016. Here are a few key pointers from the panelist.
Know your strengths AND your weaknesses.
If you want to stay on top of your game, you need to know “your game” first. I identify as kind, generous and humorous. Connecting with others comes naturally for me. Yet, these strengths contribute to my weakness: saying no. I always want to go above and beyond for my clients, which makes it difficult to draw boundaries.
Play to your strengths.
For me, I’m natural and I’m real. I consider my traits a spiritual gift, as should you. Identify what makes you ‘you’ and then run with it. You’ll be unstoppable.
Get on top of your game.
Remember these three rules to stay on top of your game.
- Be authentic.
- Be spontaneous
- Be attuned to others’ needs or desires. Reciprocate gifts.
Know how to work with millennials.
When I entered the digital space with youthful colleagues, that was an eye-opener. They are wired differently. Keep competitive, learn from the different view of life.
Millenials won’t stay (with a company, cause) if not affirmed, if their voice is not heard, especially young women.
Stay on top of your game.
Dress for success, try to fit in. This goes for younger or older people. Don’t wear orthopedic shoes.
Have your own website, Blog, personal cards in addition to social media page. Self-assess; ask a mentor “Where do you see me being a success?”
